Alessio Iuvara (CEO, CAELUS) and David Hess (Senior VP, DeepGEO) sign the MoU and shake hands at the Nuclear Business Platform event in Rabat, Morocco.

On 24 April, DeepGEO and CAELUS signed an MoU on the sidelines of the Nuclear Business Platform in Rabat, Morocco. With this agreement, the companies acknowledge that their business areas are highly aligned and that they intend to cooperate in developing nuclear projects of common interest, while promoting regional harmonization and standardization and accelerating the readiness of nuclear newcomer countries, and especially in Africa.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with CAELUS. Alessio and his team are clearly committed to seeing nuclear projects done better than historically has been the case. This is absolutely essential if nuclear energy is to become established in places such as Africa. As a company that is intending to develop both multinational repositories and nuclear power plant projects we intend to use the most promising cutting edge innovation,” said Link Murray, President of DeepGEO.

DeepGEO is pursuing the development of commercial multinational repositories for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel in four locations. Two of these are currently targeted for Africa, while another is being explored in Finland, and yet another for Labrador, Canada. These facilities are first-of-a-kind and come with their own unique licensing and regulatory challenges, which CAELUS’s technology can help to simplify and navigate.

DeepGEO’s subsidiary Ubuntu Nuclear Energy is pursuing a regional approach to nuclear energy and is focused primarily on Africa. CAELUS is very interested in nuclear newcomer markets and knows its technology can help to ensure project success – reducing cost and complexity.

Working together, the companies intend to roll out innovative new models of nuclear deployment and accelerate the expansion of nuclear energy in newcomer markets. Together, the companies offer one of the best prospects for helping to achieve the 2050 3x nuclear target proposed at COP 28.
